• How do anxiety and depression affect vitiligo outcomes?
Vitiligo and Thyroid Disorder Connection Explored
Recent research from September 2024 highlights a strong association between vitiligo and thyroid disorders. The study found that individuals with vitiligo often have elevated levels of thyroid antibodies, indicative of thyroid dysfunction. This suggests that thyroid problems may be linked to triggering vitiligo and progressing symptoms.
The researchers recommend that healthcare providers routinely monitor thyroid function in vitiligo patients, even if they are asymptomatic for thyroid issues. Proper thyroid health management could enhance vitiligo treatment outcomes and potentially slow the condition’s progression.
Vitiligo and Depression
In a study published on September 19, 2024, in Frontiers in Psychology, researchers found that individuals with depression are 4.46 times more likely to develop vitiligo. The study also reported that 65% of vitiligo patients experienced depression.
Moreover, patients with anxiety and depression showed poorer treatment outcomes, with reduced skin repigmentation and larger areas of depigmentation compared to those with better mental health. This suggests that addressing mental health may play a crucial role in improving vitiligo treatment outcomes.
That’s all for research that isn’t linked to a potential treatment. This page has more on the newest vitiligo drug study news.
